Top Tips to Get into That Back to School Mindset

As the school year kicks off once again here are some ways to incorporate a back to school mindset within the workplace.

  • Keep a planner for time management. This will help you plan things ahead of time, write down project deadlines, and preview your week on Sunday night.
  • Stay organized. Create folders for important files and emails, but not too many that you can’t keep track of all of them. If you notice your desk getting messy, take twenty minutes each week to tidy it up again. An organized workspace can help you think more clearly, not to mention find things more easily.
  • Write down your questions, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Just like in school when you didn’t understand a concept in lecture, or on a homework assignment, reach out to those who can help you. If someone is busy, make a list of your questions or shoot them an email.
  • Don’t procrastinate. Make to-do lists at the beginning of your day, or week, and knock out the most difficult items first. That way, when the afternoon slump kicks in around 3 or 4 pm, your day will already be more relaxed as you’re faced with only the easier tasks left.
  • Always be open to learning. Even for those no longer in school, it is still possible to learn something new every day. Read books that spark your interest, or help you become an expert in your field.
