Lots and Lots of Love from the Extended Family

I was asked to write about love this month and my thoughts are around love of family. There are families who are very close and others who don’t speak to each other! This month, can each and every one of you reach out to some member of your family who you haven’t talked to in a while? Will you choose a parent, a grandparent, a sibling, an aunt, an uncle, a child, a grandchild, a niece, a nephew, a cousin, a stepparent, a step grandparent, a stepchild, a significant other’s family member, or if adopted, a family member from your biological family?

My daughter is adopted, my neighbor is adopted, one of my friends is adopted, several of my friends have adopted children, my brother-in-law is adopted, and the list goes on and on. I met a 27 year old man last week who told me that he and his sister were both adopted and that he would like to find his birth mother. He mentioned this to his adopted mother and she just cried. I guess she loves her son so much and is afraid of losing him, which wouldn’t be the case.

My daughter found her birth-parents around three years ago. One lives in Virginia and the other North Carolina. Their extended family lives in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. The bottom line is that my daughter and her children, my grandchildren, are loved by so many more family members now! I come from a small family and her biological family is quite large.

I was so touched by the movie, Philomena. She so much loved her son who was forcibly put up for adoption and he so much loved her. Michael had two mothers and loved both.

Accepting and loving the family is always a better option than having negative emotions! Happy Valentine’s Day to all!!!
