Wishing You a Happy and Healthy 2015

It’s remarkable how people in their 80s are working seven days a week and still going strong.

Marie does so many things right; I would like to emulate her this year and beyond.

Marie has a sunny disposition every morning when I see her to purchase my coffee.

She is 84. She was born in 1930, married in 1951 and has nine children, seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In 1984, thirty years ago, Marie’s husband passed away.   She started working outside the home right after that – a new and scary experience at age 54!

For the past thirty years, Marie has been working seven days a week, except for a few holidays, at a local restaurant and works behind the counter. Her day there starts at 3 am and she works until 10 am, opening up the place at 7 am. She makes the donuts, coffee, and bread to name a few of her morning duties. I always see her 2003 Cadillac Deville out front!

What I love about Marie is that she loves life, loves talking with people and is so energetic! She doesn’t want to sit home and watch television all day although she does like watching a good football game. She likes getting up and out in the early morning hours. Her health, both mental and physical, is the main reason she works. She does a lot of walking behind the counter and she truly cares about her customers.

Marie’s 2015 resolution is to have continued good health for herself and to have continued cancer remission for three of her children. Her goals are to work hard, eat right and definitely have a sense of humor!!! Pretty good advice, wouldn’t you say?
