Ways to Give Back This Holiday Season!

Can you believe it is the end of the year already! The holiday season is a time for family, joy and festivities, for sharing gifts, laughter & food and being surrounded by your closest friends and loved ones.

Sadly, not for everyone.

Many people across the country are forced to endure this season alone. Here at SkyStem, we asked ourselves what we can do during this holiday season to offer one small act of kindness which could mean the world to someone else. The truth is, we all want to help out in some way but may not know where to start!
Below is a list of ideas we came up with:

  1. Holiday Charities.
Reach out to local charities within your community. You could volunteer for a couple of hours in a food shelter, visit an elderly person whose family may not be around or listen to a teenager to may need a little advice. Offering your time to another person can go a long way; often people who help out feel it benefits them more than the person in need.
  2. Holiday Shoebox.
This year many people are creating “Holiday Shoeboxes” for the homeless, offering items as small as socks, toiletries, gloves, hats and scarves. This requires minimal effort on your part, but means so much to those who may lack such basic things. If you don’t know where to send one to, this can be done through organizations such as The Salvation Army.
  3. Reach out.
We all have friends, family or neighbors who find that the holidays are a hard time and want it to pass as fast as possible. While some will not want to hear from anybody, knowing that you can be made available throughout the season as a shoulder to cry on or to grab a coffee is a great way to show you care.
  4. Donate.
Each year during the holidays we over indulge on food and gifts. Why not donate any unwanted clothing or food to a local charity rather than throwing it out? People in need are a lot closer than you think.

These are just a few ways you and your colleagues can give back this season.
