Gumption

Do you have gumption to get the right job?

Would you give up looking for a job when people say you’ve been out of work for too long? Would you give up looking for a job when people say you are too old and it is time to retire? Would you give up looking for a job knowing that there are thousands of others from the same company who also just got laid off? Would you give up looking when a company doesn’t move forward with you after five interviews? I hope the answers are all “no”.

Would you post your resume on job boards when many people say few jobs are actually gotten from them? Would you tell people about yourself on social media, when maybe you want to be private?

Would you take a job that requires a long commute or a move because you need the work?

Would you take a job where the compensation is a third to a half of what you were earning with the hope that the experience will lead to a higher paying job?

What is more important to you?

  • Money?
  • An interesting and challenging job?
  • Time with the family?

Having a job and one that is a good fit is a blessing for all!

My friend just started working at a solar power company and loves it. Another has her final interview this week with a financial services company. My fingers are crossed that she gets it!

At Thanksgiving, let us give thanks to all those people who are encouraging, not discouraging, during a job search.

Let’s also give a big “thank you” to all those companies who are in the hiring mode again!

“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strength. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength”. – Mahatma Gandhi
