With Thanksgiving just around the corner, the month of November is always a very popular time for talking about gratitude. Here at SkyStem, we have dedicated this week’s blog to highlight a few ways you can show gratitude not just around the holidays but every day.
- Show respect for those around you
Treat others with the same level of courtesy you expect to receive – smile, show kindness, exhibit patience, and listen.
- Express your gratitude
When a friend, colleague or client goes above and beyond, be sure to verbalize your appreciation. It goes without saying, but we just feel good when we make that call or tell the person how thankful we are. Some people just make our lives better, so be sure to let them know!
- Volunteer in your community
There’s a well-known secret among long-time volunteers: an act of kindness does more good for you than those you’re serving. Giving back feels good! Being heard and cared for, even for a moment, can be life changing for that person.
- Don’t complain
When bad things happen, it’s natural to want to complain about it. We often complain too quickly and too much, so be mindful in sharing your frustrations and then try to let them go. If you can’t be positive, at least be quiet!
- Turn negative thoughts into positive ones
The way we often talk to ourselves can have a hindrance in our ability to have a positive outlook on life. How we talk to ourselves has a direct correlation to our happiness. “See the positive side, the potential, and make an effort,” said the Dalai Lama.
