It’s That Time of Year to Thank Your Auditors

May is International Internal Audit Awareness Month!

Internal auditors add tremendous value to their senior leadership teams, governing bodies, and institutions as a whole. In honor of these fine individuals, each May, the Institute of Internal Auditors promotes International Internal Audit Awareness Month to acknowledge and support the profession.

Regardless of their industry, audit professionals work year round to educate their organizations on the importance and value of compliance. Not only do audit teams help processes run efficiently and effectively, but they also ensure that financial, operational, and strategic objectives are met.

According to the Institute of Internal Auditors, internal auditing provides:

  • Assurance that the organization is operating as management intends
  • Insight for improving controls, processes, procedures, performance, and risk management; and for reducing expenses, enhancing revenues, and improving profit
  • Objective assessments of operations

It’s a big responsibility! However I’m sure many auditors can relate, the role is oftentimes a thankless one, where traits like overbearing, skeptical, and “nitpicky” are thrown around without care. In fact, these problem-solving auditors commit to integrity of the highest degree, and without them, we’d lose out on one of the cornerstones of corporate governance.

Are you proud to be an internal auditor? Or are you grateful for the work that the audit team does for your organization? Be sure to thank and celebrate them during the month of May.

And if you REALLY love your auditors, check out our Love Letter to the Auditor here.
