Great Change Requires Great Chaos

I don’t like change, not because I’m in love with my current reality but rather because the process of change is often unpredictable and scary. I also don’t like change because I work really hard at creating efficiencies that make my life easier and change is not efficient. Change is chaotic and messy.

Right now I’m on the cusp of achieving a great goal that will change my life forever. It is a project that no one believed in or supported but I quietly and consistently worked on it at night and over weekends because I believed in myself. And even though I now can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, the tunnel itself is long, dark and scary. Many things have to be worked out, things that I know nothing about. However, if I want the prize, then I have to embrace the fact that over the next year or two, my life will be unpredictable, inefficient, messy and full of missteps.

To survive this period of happy turmoil, I created the following a To-Do List.

1)     Don’t focus on the mistake. Focus on the lesson and move on. Life is like a pencil. You can always erase something and try again.

2)     Surround yourself with people who believe in you.

3)     Take advice from people who have achieved your goal. Don’t listen to those who have failed.

4)     Don’t rush the process. Your time will come. All you have to do is show up every day and do your best.

5)     Don’t compare yourself to others. You are on your own journey.

6)     Have faith that everything will workout as it should and it will probably be better then you could have ever imagined.

7)     Create as many win-win scenarios as you can to build your arsenal of supporters.

8)     You have to give to get so set aside time to volunteer.

9)     Lead with love.
